Retreats

RETREATS

EGG DROP ACTIVITY

On the 20th of September 2007 we had our retreats they were the best ever! The reason why we have this special event called "retreats" is so that we can interact with our peers who we don't know that well. The first activity that we did was called the egg drop. I was in a group of 4, most people were in groups of 4. Our first task in this activity was to create a poster which represents our team, so we named our team "The Eggo", we also had cha
nt to it and we drew four eggs which have faces. (they were representing us, the four eggs) Once we had completed our first task our main task for this activity had started and that was to try and stop an egg from breaking if we drop it from the height of 5 and a half feet at least. The materials that we were provided with was 12 straws and about 3 quarters of a meter long piece of tape. We wrapped the straws all around the egg and stuck the tape over the straws. The thing which was very difficult was figuring out a way to protect the egg, though our egg wasn't protected, it broke when we dropped it. The thing I liked about this activity was that it was very interesting how some eggs survived. I learned that it's not impossible to stop an egg from breaking even if you drop it from a height of 5.5 feet. The way that we got to interact with our classmates was by knowing their thoughts and sharing ours and together coming up with a solution. Something I observed was that all eggs that had a space in the bottom and top they were the ones who survived. This activity could be better if we could have got a trial egg.

AT THE ARA (American Recreation Association)
After we finished the egg drop activity we went to the ARA. Something I liked about the ARA was that the activities were really fun, especially the Blob tag game. Something which was difficult was to run around in the big grade 6 t-shirts, which made us feel really hot. I learned that how difficult and frustrating it is for people to understand a language they don't, this was because our teacher spoke in Spanish with us and wanted us to play a game she told us to, and it was so difficult to understand. How we interacted with each other was by playing games with each other that involve interaction. I observed that everyone was enjoying them selves to the most. It could be improved by taking us on a cooler day, not on hot days like that one.

PLAYING BIPITY BOPOTY BOO WITH THE FFC CHILDREN
After he ARA we went to the FFC, Families for children. I t was a place for orphans. We went there and played games with them. The thing I liked about that activity was that the children were so happy when we were playing games with them. What was difficult was that it was very herd to make them understand what we were saying. I learned that it is extremely difficult for the children to understand. We interacted with our classmates by planning how we would help the children understand what we were saying. I observed that the children would understand what we were saying, but would be very nervous to do it. This activity could be improved by, we could have stayed there at the FFC a little longer. Still Retreats were the best ever!!

Garage Band

Garage band is where you can create sounds and small pieces of music. How to create a sound or music is by:

  1. First go to garage band
  2. It will take about 30 seconds to load, after it has loaded you will need to fill in the answers to some questions.
  3. Then it'll take some time to load again and then on your screen will appear garage band
  4. There are 3 columns the first one is called "Tracks" and there is another column next to that called "Mixer" and the big wide one will say Garageband-........(the name you gave your song in step 2), for example, Garageband-Bling Bling's song. Beneath the columns there are a few symbols: there is a plus sign (+), there is a letter "i", there is a eye, there are scissors, there is also a circle with it's center red, and there is a set of symbols which allow you to play you song and stop it, forward it and rewind it , there is also a sign which shows you how much time your song takes up
  5. Press the eye to have the variety to pick the music from, and pick the different sorts of music
  6. Pick the type of instrument you want your music piece from and listen to the music after it comes up on your right, then listen to the different pieces of music and choose the one you would like
  7. Then you might like to try other instruments the lists are all at the top of the chart which comes when you press the eye. If you want 2, 3 or more pieces of music to run together, then just drag the pieces to the empty space above and put it one after another vertically. To run a piece of music after one piece has finished you have to drag the music and place it next to the last music horizontally, and if you want other music to run with the new piece you put in then just drag the music piece of your choice and place it beneath the other music pieces.
